Mount Russell (14,086') - Grade III 5.9
The route ascends the curving arete that tops out on the left (West) summit.
I have tried to climb this peak a few times. First time John Fisher, Jeff Fisher and I got rained on at the Whitney Portal Trailhead during a freak September storm. We spent the rest of the day drying out our gear and climbing White Mountain instead. The second time Jeff and I got to Iceberg Lake. Altitude sickness got the best of us and Jeff came down with Pulmonary Edema. We bailed on that trip. The third time was with John and we were successful. This mountain was worth the relentless pursuit. I fine route indeed.
